Rtc not eating
Rtc not eating
I fed my rtc shrimp chunks and fish chunks it wont eat anymore.
I also gave superworms.. it wont eat.. my rtc is 6-7inches
It wont eat pellets too..
Its food choice is feeder fish or mollies
Its hard to keep live fish food i always run out of it then the store is far away..
Should i starve it so it will eat frozen shrimp?

Re: Rtc not eating
I'd not give any fish live food, least of all an RTC. They are opportunists and scavengers. They are omnivorous. They take everything from flesh, such as fish, dead or alive, crustaceans, reptiles, amphibians, even an occasional mammal or bird, to insects and fallen fruit in the wild.
I'd fast it until it takes fish and/or pellets. Make sure it cannot swallow any tank mates meanwhile though. Diet based on shrimp will result in vitamin B1 deficiency.

Re: Rtc not eating
I think you may be overfeeding your RTC, have you been feeding him everyday? Give this COTM artile and the rest of the information a good read if you haven't already.

Hope this helps!

I can stop keeping catfish whenever I want. I just don't think I'll ever want to do that...

Re: Rtc not eating
That sounds wrong. Not digesting food is a sign of disease, e.g., parasites, or bad water or bad / spoiled feed or very wrong water hardness or unstable water pH, temp, hardness, etc. Or inadequate aeration. Mine two have done that when the aeration was not adequate. They have not shown it to me in any other way. Never went to the surface. Just poor digestion and then eventual indigestion and death. I know for sure now it was insufficient oxygen.
What are your water parameters and how are they measured?

I transferred it already to a 30length 18width 18height tank with sufficient oxygen and water filtration.. now he seems energized and is normaly consuming Goldfishes
and frozen Fish.
Thanks maybe he was just too tired of the little space
Now his with friends Aligator Gar and a Pink tilapia cichlid
The get along fine for now.
