Info for Cat-elog

Post by minkweir »

If I'm not being too presumptous(being a noob)could I possibly get someone to add some info to C.Robinae,Sc.Barbatus please. There may be a few more I dont own too eg C.Natteri.
Anyway I recently acquired 10 Sc.Barbatus and 10 C.Robinae......Both species were placed in mature tanks of their own apart from some little ottos(who are thriving). The virginae just sat in the corner and would only take live tubifex. The barbatus just buried themselves and didnt wanna eat atall..2 died x( :(( ~X( .So I made a few calls and was told that both species require Hi Oxygen levels in the water and a meduim-hi flow of water too.So I added sera internal filters and air stones that introduce tiny bubbles into the water; looks more like a marine scene. So what a difference it made. The C.Robinae are atm my favourite Cat.The Sc.Barbatus are back to snuffling around and eating readily.Mind you I did fast them ,didnt want a uneaten food problem too.
I recently read an article in PC bout success breeding C.Robinae...it said they had a medium flow.
So what do you think Am I right or just being over enthusiastic?

I'm happy to add information, but I'm a bit confused as to what information you would like to add?

The information on Scleromystax mentions that they are sensitve to low oxygen levels. It may not be saying "Make sure you have enough dissolved oxygen", but it does mention it.

And I'm not at all sure what you want to say about the C. robineae - that they like a bit of flow?

As a registered keeper of these species, have you tried adding these comments in your profile? These will be visible on the cat-elog page to all users.

I think minkweir is also trying to start a discussion on the topic...which is a good thing before proposing any changes to the Cat-eLog, hopefully those with experience with these will add their thoughts.

Hi,yes I was only suggesting that the info be put in and was hoping that other ppl might verify what I,m saying...Obviously this is my experience with these 2 species. If it helps other ppl not go through what I did and not lose any fish then its all good.
As for posting this issue on PC I'd thought it best to ask 1st.

And yes my C.Robinae perked up immediately when I added flow and extra air.Now they are constantly on the go or hovering in the water jet...also their colour changed from very red heads and gills to more healthy looking colour like in the cat-elog.
thnx Donna
