Re: S.nigriventris stocking

Great suggestions! Thanks very much.

I'm thinking a larger group of the upside-down cats would be awesome. It was kind of what I was going for, but was hesitant on a species-only tank. I'm sure I can track down a better alternative to the congos, if need be.

S.nigriventris stocking

I've kept this species a couple of times when I was younger, then moved to the larger species. I'm feeling a nostalgic resurgence in my desire to keep these again. I have an empty 40-breeder (36''x18''x16'').

I'd like a decent sized group of these, along with perhaps congo tetras.

This combo ...

All I hear from the link is a brief scraping... when I kept angelicus and decorus, I would hear what sounded almost like a warble of some kind. I thought it was the Synos, but I never confirmed it.

I just got the fish yesterday, and I'll try and get a pic up after they've acclimated a bit. When I got up this morning to flick the light on, I could see them swimming around in the dark.

What should I be looking for?

I'll post a pic when I get them, for sure. They have to give up their fish, and I'm taking them.

I'd trust this particular fellow hobbyist, but, in reality, it doesn't matter (though I'd want to know!).

I've had one for years, and mine is probably a little larger than that.

I've never kept them with multis, though I've found mine to have quite an agreeable temperament.

I was 8 when I started keeping fish (the first were head-and-tail light tetras), and my first catfish not soon after that was a Pimelodus pictus and then I got an upside-down cat.

I was 12 when I finally found a Synodontis angelicus. I had that fish for 10 years.

So... I'm 26 now, so a total of 18 ...

Ancistrus sp.(3)?

Thanks to the sticky at the top... it appears, to me at least, that this one (and the companion) in my 50-gallon is indeed Ancistrus sp.(3).

Concur or no?

The room and the tank are still at 78 or did the temperatures increase with the increase outdoors?

My bedroom (where my tank is) is very warm, and the temp. in my tank jumped to 88 at one point, although it seems to have settled back to 80-82 recently.

It'll take me awhile to find everything on this site!

You know what, I'm stupid... I knew about the water parameter issues, and yet completely forgot about that.

So, I liked the group listed for hard water (and I agree with sidguppy on any threatened species... if they're going to be kept at all, it should be strictly for the purposes of breeding them ...

Syno community?

Hey all, first post here although a reasonably experienced aquarist.... I always have trouble with what an appropriate tank size would be.

If I wanted to have a tank with a mix of Synodontis species and keep an angelicus, a group of multipunctatus, and maybe 1 or 2 more about the size of the ...
